Ford Struggles With 2013 Lincoln MKZ Delivery

Lincoln News | 2013 Lincoln MKZ | Used Lincoln Guelph

The 2013 Lincoln MKZ is a highly anticipated car for 2013, and is especially anticipated by Ford-Lincoln CEOs who are looking to this car for a boost in sales. Last year the brand's sales dropped 4%, and in the first month of 2013 it dropped 18% compared to the same month last year. With the first month already behind us, and two weeks into February now, almost no dealerships in the USA or Canada have received any new MKZs. The company has determined that it doesn't have enough inspectors to keep up with assembly speed, so they are sending vehicles 3,600km North to Flat Rock, Michigan, where the additional vehicle inspectors will be on hand to examine all the cars before they are sent to dealerships. The inspectors at the Hermosillo, Mexico assembly plant reportedly cannot keep up with the production output, so the company is trusting the employees at the Flat Rock, MI plant to cover in the meantime.

The Lincoln brand ran two 30-second superbowl commercials in the USA to promote it's new lineup of vehicles in an effort to boost sales, which fell 4% in 2012. In January of 2013 sales fell 18% compared to the same month a year earlier.

The carmaker must hurry to avoid any more delays, as they have already lost a month and a half worth of test-drives and potential buyers. The company has realized that sales were down last year and they are making efforts to rebrand themselves, however they clearly have flaws within the assembly process that is delaying the arrival of the new vehicles to customers.

Ford has made statements that some vehicles are already on rail cars headed towards regional dealerships. The vice president of US marketing, sales, and service made a statement that the company will send the next batch of cars via trucks instead of rail to speed up delivery that much more. Although this may speed things up, it will likely cost the company more many for transportation, eating into the profits that much more.

Used Pontiac in Guelph

Pontiac For Sale | Used Pontiac Cars in Guelph | Used Pontiac G6 Guelph

Used Pontiac Guelph

Mark Wilson's Better Used Cars has recently experienced an influx of customers looking for Used Pontiac vehicles in Guelph. One of the main reasons is because customers are looking for affordable, well built vehicles that can last them a long time and be easy on the bank. Pontiac vehicles are built in North America, and have many features that appeal to local used car shoppers, such as Power Windows, Locks, and Mirrors, Power Seats, Cloth or Leather Seats, Heated Seats, Power Sunroof, DVD Entertainment System, multi-speaker audio system, power sliding doors and trunks for used minivans, Alloy wheels, and much more.

We do our best to stock as many used pontiacs as possible, in order to serve our customers better. Our selection includes used Pontiac G6, Pontiac G5, Pontiac Torrent, Pontiac Montana, and more. Our sales people are extremely knowledgeable regarding used Pontiac vehicles, and they can help you understand the benefits of a 5 Year/160,000KM powertrain warranty, the difference in trim levels, and various upgraded packages that can be added. Pontiac vehicles come in all shapes and sizes: Coupes, Sedans, Mini-Vans, etc.

Pontiac began making passenger vehicles for General Motors' Oakland brand in 1926. To the surprise of GM, Pontiac quickly became far more popular than Oakland motors, and they eventually stopped making Oakland vehicles for this reason. As Pontiac grew in popularity, more models were added, and the brand became a side-brand of Chevrolet. Pontiac vehicles were sold only in Canada, the USA, and Mexico, and were generally advertised as mainstream performance vehicles. The brand was very popular in Canada, and Guelph Pontiac shoppers sought as many vehicles as they could get. The brand was marketed in Guelph and Canada as a low-cost, reliable vehicle.

The 1990s allowed Guelph Pontiac customers to experience a whole new set of Pontiac Vehicles. The Bonneville, which had been in production for 50 years, had been phased out. Although there was no direct replacement, the Australian-built Pontiac G8 was seen as a successor. The G8 was sometimes referred to as the poor man's BMW M5, because it offered exceptional performance and styling for a fraction of the BMW price. The Australian built vehicle was produced by GM's Australian subsidiary Holden Motors, and rebadged as a Pontiac for North America. The Pontiac Grand Am was phased out in 2004 and replaced with the mid-sized Pontiac G6, which proved fairly popular and appealing to Guelph Pontiac customers. The slow selling crossover Pontiac Aztek was replaced with the popular Pontiac Torrent, and the Cavalier production ended in favour of the new, affordable, improved Pontiac G5 sedan.

For all types of families and drivers, the Pontiac models available at Mark Wilson's in Guelph are a sought after group of vehicles that are readily available for test drives 7 days a week. Call today! 866 738 6045 / 519 836 2900

Chrysler Increases Profit

Chrysler News | Chrysler Profit Grows | Global Car Sales

Chrysler Headquarters

In a press release, Chrysler has just reported that the company finished 2012 with a profit 68% larger than in 2011. The company reported a profit of $1.7 billion US Dollars, which is nine times higher than the amount of profit gained in 2011 - $183 million. The increase in profit is partly due to the fact that in 2011 Chrysler had to spend a large amount of money to repay the US government after the bailouts which saved the company from bankruptcy in 2009.

The large increase in profit for Chrysler is also attributed to the large sales rebound in the USA in general. Chrysler was the only domestic automaker that managed to gain extra market share in the US, while other companies such as Ford and GM gained ground in emerging global markets. The US market is so important for Chrysler, that is sold roughly half of its worldwide units there last year, which also shows the company's reliance on a single market. In a time when companies like Volkswagen and GM are making enormous gains in China, Chrysler is barely visible on that skyrocketing market, where millions of new car buyers enter the market each year. With over 1 billion citizens and double-digit economic growth for several consecutive years, China is the destination for most major western carmakers. Chrysler doesn't seem to have a strong strategy for breaking into the Chinese market, although it has had excellent success in its home base.

Used Nissan Guelph - Cars, SUVs, and Trucks

Used Nissan SUV | Used Nissan Car | Used Nissan Truck

Used Nissan Guelph

Mark Wilson's Better Used Cars in Guelph is proud to showcase our large Used Nissan Inventory in Guelph. As of January 24, 2013, we stock an assortment of 29 used Nissan vehicles in Guelph. We are pleased to offer our used car customers Nissan sedans, hatchbacks, coupes, SUVs, vans, and trucks. Our inventory is hand-picked by our owner, who has been in the auto industry his whole life.

Nissan Versa in Guelph

Our selection of Nissan Versas has proven to be very popular among our customers. The Versa is a unique car that has been in production since 2004 all over the world (in North America since 2006), and has enthused car shoppers in Canada especially. The Versa comes in a 4-door sedan version, or a 4-door hatchback version also. The Versa in North America comes with a 1.8L 4-cylinder gasoline engine, or a 1.6L 4-cylinder gasoline engine for vehicles made after 2009. The 1.8L engine in the Versa consumes a low 7L/100KM highway average, while the 1.6L offers a similar 7.5L/100KM highway average. Guelph NIssan customers can appreciate the fact that the Versa is a refined subcompact sedan that is produced to compete with other rivals such as the Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris, and others. For it's engine size, the Versa is quite powerful and offers excellent power on demand. When cruising, the Versa's fuel economy is at it's prime, and Guelph Nissan shoppers 2008 Nissan Versa Sedancan save at the pumps.

The Versa 1.8L offers 122 HP and 127 lb/ft of torque, which is excellent for an engine of it's size. Guelph Nissan shoppers can have the choice of three Versa transmissions: the 6-speed manual transmission, the CVT (constant velocity transmission), or the four speed automatic version. It is interesting to note that the Versa is one of only two vehicles in it's class in North America to offer a six-speed manual transmission as a standard feature, most vehicles come with only 5 gears. The added benefit of a 6th gear is for highway cruising, where the extra gear allows the engine to drive at a lower average RPM, therefore reducing fuel consumption.

The two trim levels available in the Versa are the S and the SL. The S is base, and the SL is an upgraded version which offers Air Conditioning, Power Windows/Locks/Mirrors, and ABS. The SL also has optional features that aren't available to the S, such as optional Bluetooth connectivity, a sport package which includes power sunroof, spoiler, and rear body kit, alloy wheels, and more. Overall the Versa is quite the subcompact car compared to some others on the Canadian market, and Guelph Nissan shoppers can find a nice selection of Nissan Versa's at Mark Wilson's Better Used Cars.

Nissan Altima in Guelph

The Nissan Altima is a mid-sized family sedan that has been in production since the 1993 model year. Over the years the Altima has grown to be a respected car in it's segment, and has historically sold well in the Guelph Nissan market. Since the first generation in 1993, the Altima has grown a bit in size, and also become more refined. The first generation Altima came with a 2.4L, 4-cylinder, 150HP engine, and came with MacPherson struts and stabilizer bars which provided sporty handling and moderate road noise. The first generation trim levels came in XE, GXE, SE, and GLE. The most advanced GLE model actually offered Heads Up Display, which is a feature that 2008 Nissan Altimais reserved today for vehicles such as the Chevrolet Corvette, which is far more expensive than the Altima. The Altima was far ahead of it's time, and continues to lead the way into the future of it's segment.

The current fourth generation Altima (2007-current) offers Guelph Nissan shoppers a 2.5L 4-cylinder or a 3.5L V6 upgraded engine. The 2.5L has 175HP of output, and the 3.5L offers an astonishing 270HP of output. The fourth generation offers a 6-speed manual transmission as standard, with an optional CVT automatic transmission. Many new features come with the new Altima, and Guelph Nissan customers will be pleased to find that the sedan comes with a SmartKey and push-button ignition, optional bluetooth capability, and optional reverse camera to enhance safety. The new Altima boasts many comfort features, including 9 total cupholders (including a few under the front console, 2 in the armrest, etc), the globe box size was doubled to 13L, and for 2008 all Altima models received 4-wheel ABS with electronic brake force distribution. Beginning in 2010, all Altimas came with standard Electronic Stability Control. The Altima comes in 2-door coupe, 4-door sedan, and 4-door sedan Hybrid versions.

Nissan Pathfinder in Guelph

As the destination for Used Nissan SUVs in Guelph, Mark Wilson's regularly stocks several Nissan Pathfinders for our customers. The Pathfinder has been a full size SUV since 1986, built on Nissan's compact truck platform. Beginning for the 2013 model year, the Pathfinder transformed into a crossover vehicle, with more curves and a lower, smaller body. The Pathfinder is slotted between the Murano (smaller) and the Armada (larger) Nissan SUVs. Mark Wilson's stocks the 3rd generation of Nissan Pathfinders in Guelph, which were built from 2005-2012. The North American version of the 3rd Gen Pathfinder comes equipped with a 4.0L V6 engine, with a 265HP and 2008 Nissan Pathfinder288lb/ft of torque output.

For the first time since production began, the 3rd Gen Pathfinder offered car shoppers a 3rd row of seating, which would accomodate a total of seven passengers in the vehicle, with sufficient cargo space for their belongings. The Pathfinder also comes with an optional tow package and roof rack for extra cargo transport. The 3rd Gen pathfinder has a maximum towing capacity of 6,000 lbs or 2,700 KG, which is exceptional for a vehicle of it's size. The third row of seating is collapsable, allowing for even more inside cargo space if necessary. The Pathfinder has been a huge success among suburban Guelph Nissan Shoppers, allowing for maximum use of space, engine power, and price range. The Pathfinder offers Guelph shoppers a 12V power outlet both in the front of the vehicle as well as in the rear cargo area, which makes the vehicle ideal for outings, camping, or other utility uses. Speed sensitive power steering, traction control, ABS, wide tires with deep tread, a 6-speaker stereo system, and a smooth ride are only some of the reasons why Mark Wilson's sells so many of these SUVs.

Ford Hires 8,100 & Plans For 2,200 More Workers

New Cadillac SUV | Cadillac Crossover | New Cadillac Car

Ford Logo

In 2012, Ford Motor Co. hired an additional 8,100 plant workers and administration/design staff, and plans to hire 2,200 more salary and hourly workers this year in 2013. Sales are increasing at a fast, steady pace in North America, and the company is forced to hire in order to keep up with production demand. The recent hiring surge is the largest increase in salary workers in more than a decade, the company issues in a press release. There will be hiring in the manufacturing, product development, and IT sectors of the company. Ford also made a statement that the company ended 2012 with 28,000 white collar salaried employees in North America, with most of them being in the United States. During the recession, Ford dipped to a recent low of 25,000 salary workers in 2009, while just a few years earlier in 2006 it had 38,600.

Ford made a commitment in 2011 to the United Auto Workers that it will continue hiring more workers until 2015, to reach a target of 12,000 US hourly workers. The company says it will continue to push heavily for tech-savvy employees, using social media such as twitter, facebook, and LinkedIn. Ford said it will also be more aggressively seeking military veterans who are looking for domestic jobs. In late December 2012, the company announced that it will spend roughly $773 million on capacity increases and new equipment for manufacturing facilities in south-eastern Michigan.

Cadillac Is Busy With New Small Crossover

New Cadillac SUV | Cadillac Crossover | New Cadillac Car

In early January 2013, Bob Ferguson, one of Cadillac's top executives made a statement that the company is "working hard" on a new small crossover. It will be slotted at a pricepoint just below the company's popular SRX. The vehicle is set to cadillac emblemcompete with a more urban vehicle targetted at younger buyers than the mature segment that the current SRX is popular with. The vehicle will compete with the likes of the Lexus RX350, the BMW X5, and others.

Although production and sale dates haven't been revealed, Ferguson made a comment that this vehicle is far beyond being just a possibility, and that the vehicle is heavy into the design process. Competition carmakers have made advances in the American small crossover market, with the BMW revealing the X1, and Audi planning to bring it's popular Q3 overseas from Europe. Buick will roll out the Encore SUV and Lincoln is set to reveal it's new MKC concept crossover. The small crossover segment is booming, mostly because carmakers have to find a balance between stricter fuel consumption standards, emission standards, and customer's demand for functinoality and efficiency.

Ferguson was chosen previously to be in charge of GM's massive jump on the Chinese market. Some of the company's huge success there is attributed to Ferguson, and that is part of the reason why he was chosen to spearhead the company's new shot at a crossover for both China and Western Europe. Cadillac has practically disappeared from the Western European markets, after many failed attempts at gaining some market share from strong European manufacturers. GM hopes that this new, fresh generation of Cadillac vehicles may finally get a foothold on European soil.

Toyota Settles on Acceleration Issues - $1.1 Billion

Toyota Accelerator Pedals | Toyota Settles in Court | Toyota Accelerator Settlement

On Wednesday, December 26th, 2012 during a press conference, Toyota announced that it will set aside $1.1 Billion in a fund to settle with various lawsuits stemming from the unintended acceleration of certain vehicles made in 2009-2010. The enormous backlash of the accelerator issue did end up costing Toyota sales and knocked it's reputation at the time. Toyota has since corrected the issue and as annoucned this week, will set aside a large amount of money for compensation of the owners affected. Some families even lost loved ones - a few deaths were reported due to the accelerator being stuck.

Toyota plans to install brake override systems in certain affected vehicles, and reimburse owners who will have any sort of economic loss due to the issues with their cars. Toyota estimates that roughly 16 million vehicles will be affected by the settlement, and that those vehicles will be given 3 to 10 year warranties for the parts that were related to the acceleration issues.

Toyota did not admit to any guilt, because it believes the issue could not have been predicted and wasn't due to any negligence on the company's part. The latest move will certainly reassure it's customers that Toyota will make things right, and will effectively bring an end to the long saga related to the recall. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in the USA fined Toyota over $60 million for not disclosing   the internal accelerator problem sooner. Although no statements have been made from Canadian officials, it is advised that Toronto Used Cars customers, and anyone looking for a used Toyota should check to make sure their next used car has been cleared of the recall.

After this final decision, and once all of the promises are fulfilled, Toyota and it's customers can move forward. Toyota states that after this it can focus on their value: building great cars at great prices.

Toyota, GM, Volkswagen Fight for World Sales - Record Year

World Car Sales Numbers | Automotive Sales News | World Car Sales Record Year

Toyota GM Volkswagen Logos

Record Year for Global Car Sales

As the final days of 2012 pass by, automakers globally are calculating their sales figures and presenting preliminary data to see who has bragging rights, and to determine who will have a happier new year. We've all heard how tough it's been for the auto industry worldwide since the recession in 2008/2009, but it seems that world markets are finally on the jump again (except Europe). The North American and Asian markets have showed continuous growth in the past few years, and the battle for the top spot is getting hotter by the minute.

After suffering enormous sales losses in 2011 due to the Earthquake & Tsunami in Japan, Toyota has rebounded worldwide. Despite Japan's recently ignited tensions with China (which saw Toyota's delaerships get vandalized), the automaker is still poised to take the first spot away from America's General Motors. GM initially lost it`s top-spot a couple of years ago to Toyota, but after the damage to supply routes and factory infrastructure in Japan in 2011, GM regained the number one spot.

Now, not only is GM not in the first spot, it is fighting a tooth and nail battle for second place with Volkswagen, Europe`s and Germany`s leading carmaker. With 80 million+ vehicles being sold worldwide this year (for the first time ever), GM and Volkswagen enter the final weeks with less than a 1% difference in their sales figures. It`s too clase a race to call right now, but the top-spot should be revealed in early 2013, and the winner will take the crown.

200,000 Cars Lost due to Hurricane Sandy

Hurricane Sandy Damage | Used Car News | Automotive News

Hurricane Sandy Car Damage

Assessment Just Beginning

Automakers, private dealers, new dealers, dealer groups, and transporters have just begun to assess the damage caused to their vehicle inventory and fleets by Hurricane Sandy. The storm that ravaged New York, New Jersey, and the surrounding areas not only took 100 human lives, but it also destroyed billions of dollars of property and infrastructure. The auto industry was not immune - photos and data are pouring in from all around the impacted regions showing the devastating effects of the storm, that not only cause immediate but long term effects in the industry.

As the preliminary numbers come in from the new automakers, Honda, Toyota, Nissan, and Chrysler have announced that at least 15,000 brand new cars will be scrapped. This staggering number of brand-new, never driven vehicles that will have to be used for scrap parts is unimaginable, and it's only the beginning of Sandy's aftermath. Those numbers don't even bring into consideration the huge amount of personal vehicles that will be written off as a result of flood and water damage, trees collapsing, and fires.

Long term Effects

Over the long run, worldwide assembly lines of new cars will be stressed to meet the unexpected additional demands of the market, and transportation of the new vehicles to the affected areas might be slower than usual due to the infrastructure damage. Along with the tight supply of new cars, the used car industry will also be heavily affected. The supply of used cars is tight as it is, due to the huge decrease in new vehicle leases in the past four years, and the Hurricane's effects will onlyHurricane Sandy Car Dealer Damage increase the crunch. Traditionally Canadian used car dealerships have moved south of the border to purchase cars, but maybe in light of the recent catastrophe we will say American car buyers headed to major auctions in Toronto, Ottawa, and the east coast of Canada. GM and Ford, the other two domestic carmakers that belong to the 'big three' have yet to provide even initial estimates on their vehicle loss.

Port Damage

The port of Newark in New Jersey is a major transit point for vehicles (new and used) from all over the world that are approaching the US East Coast. Along with the devastating damage caused in dealerships, parking lots, and warehouses, the port itself sustained major damage, and all the vehicles located there have been affected by the storm. Small electric carmaker Fisker Automotive from California lost 338 of it's $103,000 vehicles at the port during the storm. 16 of those vehicles were set on fire because of electrical problems due to the saltwater entering the port yard. Along with the massive initial loss of vehicles and property, the port itself sustained damage which will inevitably cause shipping delays with new vehicles being brought to the area to replenish the stock of damaged units.

Acura/Honda Drop the ZDX in 2013

Acura ZDX Dropped | Acura News | Honda News

Acura ZDX

Loss of Production

The Honda/Acura assembly plant in Alliston, Ontario will lose production of two models for the 2013 model year: The Acura ZDX, and the Acura MDX. The Acura ZDX is a cross-over SUV introduced by Honda America in 2009 to compete with well-placed competitors such as the Infiniti FX35 and the BMW X6 Crossovers. Unfortunately for Honda/Acura, the ZDX did not take off as they had expected, and the common-looking ZDX never faired well with North American consumers.

After dismal sales in it's peak 2010 year (only 3,259 units), Honda pushed for a third year of sales hoping to gain some market share. 2011 saw sales drop to a total of only 1,564, and the first nine months of 2012 only showed 642 sold units. Honda/Acura has decided to cut it's losses and stop producing this crossover at the end of 2012.

Shift in Manufacturing

The Acura ZDX shares a common platform with the much more popular Acura MDX, which is produced at the large assembly plant in Alliston, Ontario, about an hour north of Toronto. Honda/Acura has decided that the new re-designed Acura MDX will be assembled in Lincoln, Alabama, where Honda/Acura also holds a large assembly plant.

For the final 2013 model year, the ZDX will be offered to consumers in one single configuration, with a price of $51,815, which is $4,800 more than the 2012 version's base price. The 2013 Acura ZDX wil go on sale October 19th.

Toyota Recalls 7.4 Million Vehicles

Used Cars Toronto | Toronto Used Cars | Used Trucks Toronto | Used SUVs Toronto

Toyota Recalls 7.4 Million Vehicles Worldwide

Worldwide Recall

The leading Japanese automaker - Toyota -  has once again issued a massive recall, the largest since 1996. Worldwide the recall covers roughly 7.4 Milion vehicles in all markets. This recall notice is seen as a precautionary measure, given that no bodily injury or property damage has been reported anywhere as a result of the manufacturing defect present on various model vehicles made from 2005-2010. The notice will affect 1.39 million vehicles in Europe, 2.47 million in the United States, 1.4 million in China, 240,000 vehicles in Canada, and the rest spread out through Asia, Australia, and South America.

The reason that so many vehicles are being recalled all at once is because of parts standardization. A common practice in the auto industry, manufacturers use the same parts for various models to save money, and many times parts are even shared between automakers.

Vehicles Affected

The newest Toyota Recall affects the following 10 models that are sold in Canada:

  •     2005-2010 Toyota Yaris
  •     2005-2010 Toyota Corolla

  •     2005-2010 Toyota Sequoia

The recall was issued to repair a power window switch on the driver's door that has the potential to catch fire when sprayed with commercially available lubricants. Toyota says the fix is easy and takes only 40 minutes. Toyota technicians will spray the switches and wiring with a special fluorine grease that will prevent any such fire from possibly occurring. Although Toyota has declined to comment on the cost of the recall, a Tokyo based analyst has estimated that this will cost the carmaker roughly $128 Million US Dollars. This news adds to Toyota's list of problems after recent reports showed that Toyota's sales in China in September dropped 48% compared to the same month last year amid growing China-Japan tensions.

Recession Hurt Brand Loyalty

Used Cars Toronto | Brand Loyalty

Changes on The Horizon

There are lots of Guelph Used Cars and Toronto Used Cars customers up for grabs, as the recession is slowly starting to end and people are ready to get out of their vehicles. Pre-recession, it was standard practice that most people bought or leased new vehicles after 3 or 4 years max, when their regular lease contracts expired. When the recession hit, many people were unable to pay for such a luxury, or were too afraid to spend extra money on a new car.

The longer a driver keeps their vehicle, the more likely that consumer is to replace it with a different brand, a recent study shows. The loyalty decline means that car makers and dealerships need to compete harder for their customers, and must do even more to make drivers want to come back to their brands. The previous leasing trend that turned customers into new customers every 2 or 3 years was almost non existent during the recession, leaving a major gap in Ontario Used Cars and Toronto Used Cars markets.

According to the study by R.I. Polk & Co, American drivers now keep their new cars for an average of six years before switching, up from the average 4 years before the recession hit. Although the study focuses on American car purchasing habits, Ontario car ownership is expected to follow the same trend. More and more people were looking to save their money during the economic downturn, so they kept their cars longer.

Returning To Market

As these consumers return to the Ontario Used Car and Ontario New Car market, they are almost like a first time buyer. Their brand loyalty is at an all-time low, whether it's because they've been with the same brand for an average of six years and they're ready for something new, or whether it's because their lifestyle has changed. Six years is a long time for someone's car needs to change, and it's a dealerships job to make sure they grab the attention of the appropriate people who are researching the ontario used car and toronto used cars markets.

The latest data from Polk shows us that 46% of people who change cars at 3 years choose the same brand, and if they wait upto nine years that number decreases to 39%. The decline is gradual each year. Adding to this already measured trend, American and Canadian car dealerships are reporting that more and more people are willing to cross-shop both domestic and import brands, and that features and value are becoming much more important than brand loyalty was in the past. With the new generation of Ontario and Toronto Used Cars shoppers, technology and value are #1 on the list, and finding the right car at the right price is most important. Whether it's made in Ontario, Germany, Japan, or Korea is not as important as it once was.

Change in Market

As shoppers return to the Toronto Used Cars and Ontario Used Car markets, they realize that things have changed: old familiar brands such as Pontiac, Mercury, and more are now non-existent. The restructuring of domestic brands lead to the drop of many makes and models, and shoppers are having to navigate their way around new model names and designs. A lot of Korean companies that were once ignored in the past now offer much more improved vehicle lineups, with added technology, performance, efficiency, and value. Even typical quality cars like Honda (Used Honda Ontario) and Toyota (Used Toyota Ontario) have lost some market share to these rising brands. The new trend speaks volumes to customer awareness, and shows that Toronto Used Cars and Ontario retailers and automakers  cannot rely on their long-time existence and loyal customer base as much as before.

Overall, there are significant customer-inspired changes in the Toronto Used Cars and Ontario Used Cars marketplace as a result of the economic downturn, and spending habits have shaped what is available to shoppers. The change in brands and models, the improved financial situation, and the new shape of the customer base is sure to make dealerships in Toronto and Ontario focus more heavily on customer satisfaction and a greater selection of vehicles.

GM Recalls 426,000 Sedans

General Motors has just announced the recall of roughly 426,000 sedans for possible faulty transmission shift cables. This applies to 4-speed automatic transmissions for the following models:

  • 2007-2010 Saturn Aura
  • 2008-2010 Chevrolet Malibu
  • 2007-2010 Pontiac G6

The report notes that the tabs on the transmission shift cable may break and separate. This fault would cause the vehicle to not be in the actual gear that the shift lever is showing inside the car.

GM is working on notifying all owners of the above mentioned cars. Owners will be able to schedule an appointment at their local GM dealer who will repair the vehicles free of charge.

Toyota Tundra To Tow Space Shuttle

As the leading provider of Used Cars in Toronto and Ontario, Mark Wilson's is proud to offer leading industry news at your fingertips. This week, our team follows the announcement made by Toyota of North America that their biggest truck - The Tundra - will be towing the Space Shuttle "Endeavor" on the last leg of it's journey from LAX International Airport to the California Science Centre.

The Tundra is Toyota's largest pickup truck, and although it's classified as a light duty truck, it still performs well in it's segment. Unlike domestic auto makers that offer 'heavy duty' pickup trucks, Toyota has opted instead to offer a large light-duty truck that packs a compact punch. The Space Shuttle that the Tundra will tow weights approximately 300,000 lbs (yes, three hundred thousand pounds), which is several hundred times heavier than the maximum towing capacity for the stock Tundra. Toyota engineers have admitted that they have beefed up the transmission, frame, and suspension components to be able to handle such a heavy load. However, Toyota has maintained it's position that the stock 5.7L V8 engine is 100% stock and does not differ in any way from a regular Tundra that can be found on North American roads. If true, this is a very interesting surprise, and a crowd is expected to draw along the streets of Los Angeles to see the space shuttle arrive.

Mark Wilson's Better Used Cars and our Toronto Used Car shoppers eagerly await the arrival of the space shuttle in Los Angeles, and look forward to watching the Tundra tow the monstrous spacecraft. Your Favourite Used Car Dealer in Ontario Presents: Top 5 Auto Detailing Mistakes

Car Maintenance

Some enjoy it, some despise it. The fact is, auto detailing / car cleaning is a reality. Whether you enjoy it or hate it, at some point, you have or will have to clean a car.

Cleaning / Detailing your own car shouldn't be difficult. As experts in the Ontario used car industry, we have a list of the top-5 NO-NO'S:.

1. Not Washing Your Car Regularly

In Canada, roads are covered with salt and sand during the winter months, and the combination of the two, along with de-icing fluids on the road can cause major damage to your paint job over time. Keeping your used car clean will help preserve the paint and help prolong the rust bubbles that will happen at some point down the road.

2. Improper Use of Chemicals

Dishsoap is for dishes, carsoap is for cars. If you confuse the two, you can do some serious damage to your paint job, and you may not even clean it as well as you want to anyways. Chemical compounds are designed for certain applications, very specific applications. It's a common myth that 'soap is soap', but that is not just a marketing gimmick.

3. Over-Polishing

Polishing your car will restore the paint job and give your ontario used car a more appealing look and shine. However, one must remember that polishing a car just means gently rubbing the paint with a combination of wax and buffing pads. If you polish a car too often, you risk burning through the clearcoat of your paint (the clearcoat covers the regular paint and protects it) and then you will expose your paint to the elements, causing it to age faster, and be more prone to rust.

4. Not Drying Your Car

Moisture helps to form rust, and if you're a person who never uses a microfiber cloth or chamois to dry their car after washing it, you will end up with water spots all over your car. These water spots are ugly and will damage the paint permanently if you do this frequently. When you dry your car, you must remember to open the doors and wipe in the door jams, under the doors, and anywhere that you see moisture.

5. Not Cleaning Rims

Whether you have alloy rims or hubcaps on your Ontario used car, it is important to keep them clean to maintain their look throughout the life of your car. Your brake pads create dust every time you use them (some more than others), and some of this dust is left on your wheels. If you don't clean it regularly, it will stain or become very hard to remove. Generally, a light wiping with a cloth will take care of it. Occasionally, dirty rims need all-purpose cleaner, or in serious cases rim acid needs to be used.

In the end, every used car owner in Ontario owes it to themselves to maintain their vehicle, including their vehicle's appearance, to the best of their ability. This ensures better trade-in or resale value, and provides a more pleasurable driving experience.
